Wish Me Luck

Well if luck is when preparation meets opportunity, as supposedly some wise Chinese guy once said, then I am about to have the luckiest time of my life!

At a break in life, with savings in hand, I seized the opportunity to take 5+ months of my life this year to simply walk. And I have spent the last 7 months preparing for it!  It’s shocking to realize that it actually did take such intense planning, research, and purchasing on top of the physical and mental preparation.  But now here I am, just days from the start, most of my gear upgraded, and as ready to go as I can get.

I’ll begin walking on the 28th of March from Campo, CA on the Mexican border, hoping to reach the Canadian border in September.  This puts my official address as “General Delivery” for a number of months.  Homeless, but on purpose.  There’s a frightening freedom in that.  I have a linear address for the next chapter, carrying my personal bed and breakfast along with me to the next best view each day, within a tent neighborhood of grubby people with huge grins.  I will follow this line from early spring into summer, then racing fall before winter shuts the door.

I’ve got my first boxes sent off to the first trail towns, along with hundreds of other trail hopefuls.  So mine can be identified in the massive piles of white boxes, I convinced the superbly talented Maya to draw me a series of inchworms to mark them.

Now, with each and every resupply box, I have a spark of joy from her, and from my family and friends who are helping me color them.  I am ready for a lot of unknown on the trail, but I do know for sure the inchworms will make me smile at every stop.

So here’s to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you for your contributions to get me to the start of yet another epic adventure!  Your confidence, support, gifts, and advice got me to start this trail.  Your following, encouragement, and faith will keep me there.  That, and a little luck.  😉
